The Origin of a Pina Colada
The blended mix of pineapple, coconut, and rum is widely credited to Ramón Marrero at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan in 1954. Puerto Rico later named the piña colada its official drink. The creamy body comes from cream of coconut, the thick sweet kind from a tin, blended with the pineapple and the rum until the drink is cold and smooth.
