The Origin of a Margarita

The origin is disputed. Stories from Mexico and the United States in the 1930s and 1940s all claim the Margarita, often attaching it to someone named Margaret or Margarita, and none of those accounts is settled. What is settled is the drink itself: tequila, orange liqueur, and lime, shaken and often served with salt on the outside of the rim.
