The Origin of an Aperol Spritz
Aperol was created in Padua in 1919 by the Barbieri brothers, as a bright orange aperitif. The spritz around it is older. In northern Italy, people lengthened wine with a splash of sparkling water. Putting Aperol together with prosecco and a little soda became the familiar serve, poured over ice in a wine glass and finished with a slice of orange.
